The Qatar Olympic Committee announced the participation of 14 male and female athletes in the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, Paris 2024, which will be held from July 26 to August 11.
The Qatar Olympic Committee highlighted Qatar’s participation in the Olympics during a press conference held yesterday in the presence of Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Olympic Committee, Mohammed Saeed Al Misnad, Director of the Qatari Administrative Delegation to the Games, and Abdul Hadi Al Sahli, Head of the Media Department at the Olympic Committee and Head of the Qatari Media Delegation to the Olympics.
During the conference, it was discussed that there is a great desire to continue Qatar’s achievements in the Olympics after it achieved an unprecedented achievement in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by winning three medals, including two gold medals for the champions Mutaz Barshim in the high jump competition in the athletics competitions and Fares Ibrahim in the 96 kg weightlifting competition, and a bronze medal for the beach volleyball team.
Mohammed Al-Fadala: We have harnessed all capabilities
Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Olympic Committee, stressed that participating in the Olympic Games is an honor for every male and female athlete, considering it the largest sporting event in the world. He praised the efforts made by the qualified Qatari federations and the preparation plans put in place to equip the athletes in the best possible way, noting that the ambitions are great to achieve distinguished results in this edition of the Olympics.
Al-Fadala said at the beginning of his speech at the conference: We congratulate His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, His Excellency Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, and the directors of departments at the Qatar Olympic Committee on the qualification of the players for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
He explained that the Qatar Olympic Committee has provided the necessary capabilities to the sports federations, whether before or after qualifying for the Olympics, expressing his confidence in the qualified players who have the spirit of challenge and honor the name of Qatar.
Al-Fadala pointed out that the international federations have set high standards for qualifying for the Olympic Games, whether by achieving the qualifying numbers or through points, through which more than one Qatari player has qualified for the Olympics.
Mohammed Al-Misnad: We look forward to achieving the best
Mohammed Saeed Al-Misnad, Director of the Qatari Administrative Delegation to the tournament, revealed the participation of 14 male and female athletes representing five federations: athletics, volleyball, shooting, weightlifting, and swimming in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The list of participants includes: Mutaz Essa Barshim, Abdulrahman Samba, Abu Bakr Haidar, Basem Hamida, Ismail Daoud, Ammar Ismail, Saif Mohammed, and Shahd Mohammed in athletics, Saeed Abu Sharb and Rashid Saleh Al-Athba in shooting, Faris Ibrahim Hassouna in weightlifting, Sherif Younes and Ahmed Tijan in beach volleyball, in addition to Abdulaziz Al-Obaidli in swimming.
He explained: The reception will be chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, in the presence of His Excellency Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, and the heads of the sports federations participating in the tournament and the participating players. The aim of the ceremony is to increase the connection and consolidation of relations with the Olympic family and the National Olympic Committees and to highlight the leading role of the State of Qatar as a capital of global sports.
He pointed out that Mutaz Barshim and Shahd Mohammed were chosen to raise the flag of the State of Qatar at the opening ceremony of the tournament, while the arrival of Qatari athletes to Paris will begin on July 19, noting that preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics began immediately after the end of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
He pointed out that during the Paris Olympic Games, the Qatar Olympic Committee will hold a reception on the first of August on the sidelines of the Games.
Abdul Hadi Al-Sahli: We trust all players
Abdul Hadi Al Sahli, Head of the Media Department at the Olympic Committee and Head of the Media Delegation at the Olympics participating in the Paris Olympics, expressed his hopes that the delegation would be able to convey the full picture to the Qatari sports community.
Al-Sahli said: As for the media delegation, we have a full delegation that is consistent with the Olympic Committee’s regulations, and we seek to convey all the details. We rely on our media colleagues in various Qatari visual, audio and print media outlets, and we hope to present distinguished levels, as was achieved in the last Olympics in Tokyo.
He continued: We have great confidence in all our players participating in this great sporting challenge, starting with Mutaz Barshim, who won the gold medal in the gravity challenge that was held in Doha. He has tremendous experience due to his participation in 3 versions of the Olympics and his achievement of 3 medals. Also, our champion Fares Ibrahim, who won the first gold medal in the history of Qatari participation, and despite his recent weight change, his numbers and Barshim’s numbers say that they are the best, God willing.
