Have you ever felt a strange pain that made you hesitate to book an appointment with the doctor? Or have you wondered if you need to examine a simple matter that you are constantly suffering from?
Our modern life, full of excessive work, lack of sleep, and public life pressures, exacerbates a wide range of healthy symptoms. But some, although it seems simple, may require medical advice.
The British Independent newspaper spoke with Dr. Lori Solomon, Head of the Department of Family Medicine and Society at New York Medical College, and Dr. Estille Williams, the medical director of “CityMd” for the southern New Jersey region in the United States of America, to find out their opinions about the symptoms that should not be ignored:
1- Frequent go to the bathroom
Dr. Lori told the Independent newspaper that waking up in the middle of the night to urinate is completely normal. But if you do it twice or 3 times a night – every night – it may be an indication of a more serious problem.
Frequent urination may be a symptom of diabetes. Dr. Estil agrees with this opinion, adding that one of the other signs of concern is thirsty and a significant increase in appetite. “These are the things that I think you need an urgent and not later examination,” she says.
2- Night pain
Muscle tension, physical injuries, or other person may hinder sleep, but it should not cause inconvenience to just sleep. Dr. Lori explains: “If you wake up in the middle of the night with a headache, you are suffering from a problem, because we usually do not wake up a headache in the middle of the night, if this is what wakes you up at night, you may have to feel anxious about it.”
3- Sudden headache
Dr. Lori says the headache is “very common”, and it should not necessarily be considered anxious, but if the headache is accompanied by other symptoms such as changes in vision, nausea, tingling in the limbs, or weakness, this may be a sign of a nervous problem.
4- Numbness of breath or fatigue
Dr. Estil says that sudden breath is a symptom that appears frequently and should not be ignored, especially if you have not suffered from it before. Fatigue can be a symptom of heart disease, sleep apnea, and even some types of cancer.
And she adds: “If you take a deep breath and feel pain in your chest or back, you did not feel it before, this may sometimes be a sign of a blood clot in the lungs, it is called pulmonary obstruction, which is something we definitely want to discover it sooner and not later.”
5- indigestion
Dr. Estil says that symptoms -like symptoms – pressure or distress – last for 15 or 20 minutes may be a dangerous indication, especially for those who do not usually suffer from indigestion or heartburn. This feeling of indigestion may be an indication of heart disease.
6- Blood in the stool
“If you notice a change in stool, such as seeing black stools or a lot of blood when using the bathroom, I think this is not a hidden sign. This is anxious, so you should see a doctor.”
People often link the presence of blood in the stool with hemorrhoids, but it should not be ignored because it may be a symptom of colon cancer.
