His Excellency Mr. Jassim bin Rashid Al -Buainain, Vice -Chairman of the Organizing Committee for Table Pick – Doha 2025 and Secretary -General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, received yesterday, Dr. Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, during his visit to the Lusail Hall, which is hosting the World Table Tennis Championships – Doha 2025, one of the most prominent championships on the World Sports Program for this year.
This visit comes exactly a month before the Olympic day corresponding to June 23, which will witness the conclusion of Dr. Bach’s mandate at the head of the International Olympic Committee, after 12 years of leadership and development that redrawed the features of the Olympic movement and led it in a articulated stage of global transformations.
The tour included both the President of the International Table Tennis Federation, Ms. Petra Sorling, the first deputy president of the International Federation, the President of the Asian Table Table Federation, Mr. Khalil Al -Muhannadi, the Director of Sports at the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Kate McConnell, and the President of the Qatar Tennis Tennis Federation. During the visit, His Excellency Mr. Jassim bin Rashid Al -Buainain reviewed the approach followed by the State of Qatar in hosting major sporting events, highlighting the experience of athletes, sustainability of facilities, and the integration of organizational processes.
The delegation witnessed a part of the quarter -finals of the championship, which witnesses the participation of 640 players representing 127 countries, under the supervision of the International Table Tennis Federation, one of the largest global sports federations in terms of the number of member states, which amounted to 227 federations.
During the visit, His Excellency Mr. Jassim Al -Buainain presented a memorial shield in the name of Dr. Bach Championship, in honor of his leadership efforts and his continuous support to the Olympic movement at the international level.
The Lusail Hall is one of the most prominent multi -use sports facilities in the State of Qatar, and it has previously hosted the World Handball Championship for men in 2015, and it is scheduled to be among the main facilities of the 2027 basketball World Cup.
During the tour, President Bach briefed on the championship operating system, including sports support areas, broadcasting technologies, logistics and sustainability frameworks.
