In a new surgical achievement that reflects the level of development witnessed by surgical services at the Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar, the orthopedic team at Aisha bint Hamad Al -Attiyah Hospital succeeded in performing the first accurate operation of its kind in Qatar to treat a rare birth defect in the knee, which restored hope for a 28 -year -old young woman who was suffering for years of permanent pain and a movement that affected her daily life since her teenage.
The patient, who suffered silently from a rare disorder known as “Trochlear Dysplasia”, had a growing difficulty in walking and normal movement since the age of eighteen, as it caused her to dive into a painful friction in the knee soap and gradually damage to the cartilage, which prevented her from practicing the simplest daily activities, and restricting her aspirations in study, work and life.
During the operation, which lasted several hours, the surgical team reshaped the bone cavity in which the knee soap settled, with an innovative vital membrane that contains stem cells taken from the patient’s bone marrow itself, to stimulate the regeneration of the arthropod and restore the function of the joint completely, according to a statement issued by the Hamad Medical Corporation, Al -Jazeera Net.
