Qatar reduces the prices of 1019 medicines in the local market

The Ministry of Public Health in Qatar announced the reduction of 1019 drug preparations in the local market by 15% to 75%.

The Ministry stated – in a statement the day before yesterday – that the reduced pharmaceutical products from all therapeutic groups, including heart medications, pressure, sugar, analgesics, anti -inflammatory, antibiotics, antibiotics, immune diseases, allergic drugs, antidepressants, psychiatric drugs, digestive diseases and weight loss medications.

Dr. Aisha Ibrahim Al -Ansari, Director of the Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Supervision Department at the Ministry of Public Health, said that the Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Control Department periodically reviews the prices of drug preparations registered in the State of Qatar, noting that the focus is on the most used treatment groups in a manner that guarantees their provision at reasonable prices, up to all therapeutic groups.

She emphasized the Ministry of Public Health’s keenness to ensure the provision of medicines in the local market for all residents at a reasonable cost, and to ensure their quality and in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development in the health care sector.

The Director of the Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Supervision Department at the Ministry of Public Health stated that the prices of medicines are determined when registered in the local market based on the approved pricing rules, as the cost of manufacturing in the country of origin and the accredited reference prices and the prices of alternatives available in the local market are taken into account.

The newspaper quoted local pharmacists as saying that the move is in the interest of the consumer and is a response to the long -awaited demands, noting that the decision codified the individual import of expensive medicines, especially the slimming and depression medications, as well as it cuts the way for some drug dealers who put material profit in the first place at the expense of consumer health.

Observers say that the prices of drugs in Qatar before the decision were higher than its counterpart in neighboring countries.
