Dr. confirmed. Hamed Al -Shaibani, Executive Director of Information and Communications Technology Department at the Crooh Transport Company, said that the launch of self -driving taxis is strengthening the position of the State of Qatar in the leadership of smart transport in the region and supports the targets of Qatar National Vision 2030 through innovative solutions to safer and efficient transport. D. Al -Shaibani The project is a qualitative step towards the future of smart and safe transportation, pointing out that it is not just a self -driving taxi but rather an integrated system that combines the latest sensors and software -backed software with artificial intelligence and a safe and modern infrastructure.
He explained that the vision of the Ministry of Communications through this project is that transportation in Qatar becomes safer, comfortable and efficient with the perversion of traffic.
He also indicated that this type of vehicle works at the fourth level of self -driving, which means that it is able to drive full in specific ranges without human intervention, in specific areas of the state that cover tourist and service paths.
On the specifications of self -driving taxis, he said Dr. Al -Shaibani said that every self -driving taxi is used in these experiments, equipped with 11 long and medium -range cameras, four radars, and four “Lidar” units, which gives it a clear vision at an angle of 360 degrees, which strengthens its ability to monitor and accurately control during the movement. There is also a team that monitors the movement of cars around the clock to intervene when necessary.
The first stage of the experience of the self -driving taxi was launched under the supervision of a specialized team without the presence of passengers, while the second stage is witnessing the full experimental operation with the presence of passengers without a driver, and the experiments will continue until the first quarter of next year, with the monitoring and evaluation of the technology and operational efficiency, in addition to setting relevant organizational frameworks, and preparing the supportive infrastructure, within the framework of future smart transport initiatives in the State of Qatar.
