Anfield Stadium witnessed emotional moments at the end of Liverpool’s match against Brentford, as Egyptian star Mohamed Salah appeared clearly affected and shed tears during his honoring ceremony following the final match of the English Premier League season. The match was the last appearance for both Mohamed Salah and defender Andy Robertson in a Liverpool shirt, after coach Arne Slot relied on them in the starting lineup during the confrontation. After the match ended, the Liverpool players lined up in an honorary corridor to bid farewell to the duo, amid a festive atmosphere mixed with sadness, as Salah passed between his teammates amid applause and cheers from the Anfield stands, before exchanging hugs with them in touching farewell moments. A number of the team’s players, led by Jordan Henderson, the former Liverpool and current Brentford player, were keen to greet Salah and exchange hugs with him on the field. The honoring ceremony witnessed the presence of a number of club officials and legends, including CEO Billy Hogan, Sir Kenny Dalglish, and Ian Rush, in addition to sporting director Richard Hughes, where souvenirs were presented to Salah and Robertson in appreciation of their careers with the Reds.
“The love of the fans is what matters most to me more than anything,” Egyptian star Mohamed Salah said as he closed the curtain on nine years full of titles with Liverpool, following a draw with Brentford at Anfield in the final thirty-eighth round of the English Premier League.
The Egyptian international made his final assist in a Reds shirt against Brentford (1-1), before leaving the Anfield field amid warm applause from the fans.
Salah told Sky Sports: “It is difficult to leave Liverpool, but this is life. I look back and ask myself: Would I have wanted more than I achieved? not really. “Collectively and individually, we won everything.”
He added, “The most important thing when you leave is to see what we see today: the fans appreciate what you gave to the club.” The love of the fans is what matters to me more than anything.”
He confirmed that he will not return to Liverpool, at a time when his next club is not yet known.
He said with a smile: “No, I will not come back. I will be very far from here.” I love everything here, honestly. I hope that the team will continue its current level and compete for all titles. “This is what we have done over the past ten years.”
“We have returned the club to its normal place,” Salah explained.
He added: “I think I cried more than I have cried in my entire life.” “I’m not usually an emotional person.”
He added, speaking about his time with Scottish defender Andrew Robertson at Anfield: “We lived our youth here, and we shared everything from beginning to end. “We have brought this club back to its natural place.”
