In his speech during the opening session, His Excellency the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs stressed the strength of relations between the State of Qatar and India, saying: “Qatar and India enjoy strong, well-established relations built on mutual trust and fruitful cooperation over the years. Our partnership has been strengthened under the umbrella of the vision of our common leadership, which seeks “To diversify, enhance and deepen bilateral cooperation.”
His Excellency pointed to the remarkable growth in the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, as it witnessed an increase of 55% since 2020, reaching approximately $14 billion in 2023. He also explained that India is the second largest trading partner of Qatar, and investors from the Indian side contribute to More than 20 thousand companies and projects in the Qatari market. On the sidelines of the summit, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, met with His Excellency Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of India and Chairman of the Partnership Summit, where the two sides discussed ways to enhance the trade partnership between the two countries and increase the volume of trade exchange. His Excellency also met with Mr. Sanjeev Puri, President of the Confederation of Indian Industries and co-chair of the summit, where ways to increase cooperation between the private sector, increase the number of companies in the two countries, and enhance joint investments in the Qatari and Indian markets were reviewed.
In addition, His Excellency held a meeting with a number of representatives of Indian private sector companies, where they reviewed the developments witnessed by the Qatari economy in recent years, discussed the investment opportunities available in various sectors, and highlighted the legislation stimulating investment and the initiatives launched by the state to support the private sector. With the aim of attracting more foreign direct investments and enhancing the presence of international companies in the Qatari market.
