What happened in the hospital?

In December 2023, the Israeli army destroyed large parts of Kamal Adwan Hospital, and then waged and launched air strikes that destroyed its power generators in May 2024.

The director of nursing at the hospital, Eid Al -Sabah, said that Kamal Adwan Hospital is an icon of health, steadfastness and challenge in the world after he was subjected to a fierce attack during the war.

He added to Anatolia: The place witnessed many massacres, incursions and direct targeting with artillery shelling and drones.

He added: After storming the hospital, the Israeli army arrested the medical cadres, including the hospital director, Abu Safia, and the hospital was completely destroyed and burned its various departments, including the pharmacy, the kidney washing department and the operating rooms.

He continued: More than 60 medical cadres were arrested, while more than 30 of them were martyred while performing their humanitarian duty, and dozens were wounded.

He pointed out that the Israeli army did not respect international laws, but rather committed war crimes by destroying the hospital and killing medical staff.

Calls for accountability and reconstruction

Sabah called for an urgent international action to hold Israel accountable for its crimes, and to rebuild the hospital to return to provide its health services.

On December 28, 2024, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced that the Israeli army arrested the hospital director Abu Safia.

One day before, the occupation army stormed the hospital, set fire to it, took it out of service, and arrested more than 350 people who were inside, including Abu Safia.

On November 24, 2024, Abu Safia was injured as a result of an Israeli shelling targeting the hospital, but he refused to leave his place and continued to treat patients and wounded.
