Professor Inna Dunka, a member of the German Diabetes Association, recommended that chronic diseases pay attention to the following important points during fasting in the blessed month of Ramadan.

1- Medicines

Fasting affects metabolism; So the body interacts differently with medications. Accordingly, the fasting people must control the diuretical dose dose used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, in order to avoid dehydration due to the loss of a large amount of water.

The blood pressure medications, which contain the active substance “Lerkanidipine”, should also be taken before eating; Since if the medicine is taken after a large meal, the effect of the drug will increase, and then the risk of an overdose increases.

2- Diabetes

Not all diabetics are similar; Some people with this metabolic disease are at a great risk of complications during the month of Ramadan. This applies to every person with type 1 diabetes.

So it is better for these patients not to fast; Where long discontinuation of eating during the day can lead to serious fluctuations in blood sugar levels, and the risk of a severe decrease in blood sugar rises. And whoever wants to fast, he must do this under careful medical supervision, with a constant measurement of blood sugar levels.

On the other hand, people with type 2 diabetes can fast as long as health risks are low. However, they should also consult a doctor in advance to clarify any possible modification of the drugs. Of course, the same applies to them; Where blood sugar levels should be checked regularly throughout the day.

If the blood sugar levels are out of control, diabetics must then stop fasting immediately. A lack of blood sugar can be inferred by observing symptoms such as tremors and dizziness, and the value of the measurement is less than 70 mg/dL is also a warning sign.

The symptoms of high blood sugar include frequent urination, fatigue, confusion and nausea, in addition to the high level of blood sugar to more than 300 milligrams/dL.

3- Summ intelligent planning

Breakfast is usually characterized by fatty and sweet foods. So diabetes should avoid sweets and sweetened drinks. It is better for blood sugar levels to focus on whole grains, legumes, vegetables and fat -free protein.

For suhoor, it is better to choose foods that provide a lot of dietary fiber, which helps to feel full for a long time. The whole grain products are perfect for this.
