Al-Gharafa of Qatar qualified for the semi-finals of the 39th Arab Men’s Handball Championship after defeating Al-Karkh of Iraq with a score of (28-22) today in the first match of the quarter-finals of the championship currently being held in the State of Kuwait, and will continue until September 26.
Al-Gharafa will face the winner of the match between Kuwait’s Al-Salmiya and Iraq’s Al-Hashd in the semi-finals tomorrow.
Al-Gharafa qualified for the quarter-finals after topping Group 2 in the group stage, achieving three victories over Al-Qadisiyah of Kuwait, Maliha of the UAE, and Al-Hashd of Iraq, in return for a single loss against Al-Ahly Bank of Egypt.
For its part, Al-Ahly, the second representative of Qatari handball in the tournament, will play against Al-Qadisiyah of Kuwait later today in the quarter-finals as well.
Kuwait SC won the last edition of the tournament, which was held in Saudi Arabia last year, after defeating Egypt’s Zamalek in the final match (31/30).
It is noteworthy that Al Rayyan of Qatar won the title of the twenty-first edition of the tournament, which was held in Sharjah in 2000, and Al Gharafa won the title of the thirty-fifth edition, which was held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, in 2019.
