Apple announced the discontinuation of the artificial intelligence-based “Notification Summaries” feature as part of new beta updates to its systems, in iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3 updates, which are still in their beta phase.
By disabling this feature, bulk notifications from news and entertainment applications will stop, with the aim of improving the alerts system and addressing the problems associated with it. Apple added a warning that appears to users when activating this feature for the first time, which indicates that it is still under beta testing.
Apple has also added a new feature that allows users to choose to receive notifications in a summary form from the lock screen, and to make it easier to recognize notifications generated by artificial intelligence, the texts related to them will be displayed in italics.
It is worth noting that the “Notification Summaries” feature first appeared with the launch of iOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 updates, which provided Apple’s artificial intelligence features in some devices. This feature quickly sparked controversy after the spread of negative reports accusing it of spreading misleading information and fake news.
Apple is currently working to address the problems associated with this feature, and it is not known if it will release it with the final versions of its upcoming updates.
