Bayern Munich announced today that Croatian international defender Josip Stanisic will be out of action for several weeks after suffering a tear in the lateral ligament of his right knee during training.

Bayern Munich have re-signed Stanišić, 24, who extended his contract last June until 2029, after he played last season on loan with Bayer Leverkusen, winning the German league and cup double.

Leverkusen wanted to keep the Croatian defender after he played an influential role in leading them to the German league title for the first time in the club’s history, in addition to winning the cup and reaching the final of the European League / Europa League /, by playing 38 matches in all competitions, during which he scored 4 goals.

Bayern Munich are suffering from some shortages in their defence, with the new defender coming from Stuttgart, Hiroki Ito, suffering from a foot injury that will keep him out of the first weeks of the Bundesliga, while Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt moved to Manchester United earlier this month.

Bayern Munich, who lost the Bundesliga title for the first time in 11 years last season, begin their new campaign against Wolfsburg on Sunday.
