The Brazilian Football Association decided to impose a penalty on the players who stand on the ball during the matches, where they will be granted a yellow card if they did this movement, after the actions of the Dutch striker Mevis Debay sparked widespread controversy in the Paulista Championship final.
In the wake of the incident in March, the new rule was applied after three days, as two players received warnings for their standing of the ball in a match between Bolivia and Brazil in the South American U -17 Championship.
In its statement, the Brazilian Federation affirmed that Al Qaeda comes in response to the recommendations of the South American Football Association (Conditioner), which demanded the application of technical and disciplinary procedures related to this movement. According to the new rule, the player will get an indirect free kick in addition to a yellow card.
Meanwhile, Depay criticized the new base through his account on “X”, where he considered that the focus should be on developing the rules that benefit sports, rather than focusing on “trivial” laws. Debay had played the ball in the match of his team Corinthians against Palmeiras in the Paulista final, which led to a quarrel between the two teams after the defenders intervened.
Although the match stopped for some time due to the fight, Corinthians managed to win the title after the match ended in a negative tie.
