Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has announced that captain Lionel Messi will be ready to play in today’s 2024 Copa America semi-final against Canada in New Jersey despite concerns over a hamstring injury to the forward.
Messi returned to the field last Thursday in Argentina’s victory over Ecuador in the quarter-finals after missing the last match in the group stage due to injury.
He played the full match but appeared to struggle physically, and the 37-year-old Inter Miami player missed a penalty kick in the shootout that decided the match at the NRG Stadium. Argentina and Canada will meet for the second time in the tournament after the opening match in Group A, where the defending champions beat Canada 2-0.
