The draw for the World Padel Championship Qatar 2024 was drawn today, the competitions of which will begin tomorrow, Monday, on the courts of the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex and will continue until next Saturday, with the participation of 16 national teams in the men’s and women’s categories.
According to the draw, the host Qatar team will play in the third group, which includes the teams of France, Chile, and Uruguay, while the first group includes the teams of Argentina, Belgium, Italy, and the United States.
The second group consists of the teams of Spain, Paraguay, Mexico and the Emirates, while the fourth group includes the teams of Portugal, Brazil, the Netherlands and Sweden.
For women, the first group included the teams of Spain, Germany, Brazil and Chile, the second group included the teams of Argentina, Portugal, the United States and Egypt, while the third group included Italy, Sweden, Uruguay and Japan, and the fourth group included the teams of Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Denmark.
Mr. Tariq Zainal, Secretary-General of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel and Badminton Federation and tournament director, expressed his happiness at hosting the Qatar World Padel Championship for the second time after the 2021 edition.
He said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that all organizational matters have been completed for the start of the tournament tomorrow, and the facilities have been prepared at the highest level, as is usual in Doha, the world capital of sports, to achieve the best organizational and technical world championship.
He pointed out that the amazing success achieved by the first championship in Doha in 2021 and the qualitative shift that occurred at that time as the first world championship organized outside Europe and the Americas, made the International Padel Federation ask Qatar to host the championship again, which was responded to.
Regarding the participation of the Qatari team, Zainal confirmed that the Qatari team will participate as the host of the tournament and was drawn into the third group alongside the teams of France, Chile and Uruguay, and that this group is balanced, expressing his hope that the team will achieve progress in the tournament and be among the ten best teams in the world.
For his part, Mr. Luigi Carraro, President of the International Padel Federation, stressed that the State of Qatar’s hosting of the World Championship is something that pleases everyone, including federation officials and all participating teams (men and women), due to the best equipment and facilities we see and a global climate suitable for all.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Carraro expressed the International Federation’s happiness to return again to Doha after 2021, pointing out that Qatar will present the best tournament this time and will bring to mind the impressive success achieved in the last tournament.
He said: We will never forget Qatar’s continued support for the sport of padel and the efforts made to spread this sport globally and at the level of the Middle East region. He added, “In cooperation with Qatar, we are trying to change many things in the sport of padel and always reach the best.”
He pointed out that Doha has become a special home for the sport of padel, and the Qatar Padel Federation has played an essential role in hosting many strong international padel tournaments, expecting a distinctive version of the World Championship and for players and fans to enjoy the hospitality and wonderful conditions.
Mr. Luigi Carraro praised the atmosphere, the precision of the organization, the great interest of the Qatari officials, and the very high quality of the equipment and facilities that were prepared and equipped for the World Championship.
For his part, Qatar national team player Mohammed Al-Khanji expressed in a similar statement to QNA that he and his teammates in the national team were happy to participate in the largest world championships in Doha.
Al-Khanji confirmed in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the draw for the World Championship was strong, as the tournament includes the best teams and players in the world.
He said: “It is expected that the matches will be strong between many competent players, especially since the tournament witnesses the participation of an elite group of the most prominent players ranked among the top players in the world.”
He stressed that the Qatari national team players will strive to achieve distinguished results and advance during the competitions, as well as benefit from the interaction with the ranked players and gain more experience.
He pointed out that the team conducted its preparations over the past weeks through a training camp in the Emirates, participating in many friendly matches and daily training, in addition to participating in an international tournament from which the team’s players benefited.
Al-Khanji said: “Our group in the World Padel World Cup is strong, which includes the teams of France, Chile and Uruguay. We hope to provide the best level in order to move forward, especially since Al-Anabi is ready and strong. We are competing in the tournament and our goal is always the best.”
He added: The national team has previously played many matches with France and Uruguay, and from here we will try to do our best to qualify for the final rounds of the tournament.
Al-Khanji noted the keenness of the Qatar Tennis and Squash Federation to organize an exceptional edition befitting the global status that Qatar enjoys in organizing major sporting events.
The total prize money for the tournament is 500,000 euros, distributed equally between men and women and among all teams that reached the finals.
The State of Qatar obtained the right to host the World Padel Championship after meeting a number of criteria, most notably international sports facilities and organizational expertise, in addition to the great support that Doha provides to the players participating in the tournament, the sporting heritage that the State of Qatar enjoys, and its distinctive geographical location.
This is the second time that the World Padel Championship will be held in the State of Qatar, as it previously hosted it in 2021 and achieved great success.
