A new study found that modern electronic cigarettes (Modern Pod-STYLE Electronic Cigarette) are more causing addiction than nicotine gum, indicating that these devices involve a very high probability of addiction to them.

The study was conducted by researchers from the University of West Virginia, in Morganite, the United States, and its results were published in the journal Nicotine & Tobacco Research on May 20, and the Yurrick Alert website was written.

High concentrations of nicotine

Since entering the market in 2003, electronic cigarettes have become very common in the United States, especially among adolescents and young adults. A large percentage of e -cigarette users has never used any other tobacco products regularly.

Nearly a third of the users of electronic smoking adults reported that there is no history of cigarette smoking, and this percentage rises to more than half of the ages of 18 and 24. It is likely that this style is due to the appearance of bodies about a decade ago, whether in a reusable form or for use once.

These devices contain nicotine salts with high concentrations, and they are more efficient in connecting nicotine to users from previous electronic smoking devices.

Nicotine/tobacco addiction is numerous. In the highest category, combustible cigarettes cause severe addiction. As for alternative products, such as nicotine gum – available in the United States since the early 1980s – addiction to it is generally less, and it has limited possibilities for addiction.

Previous research has found that electronic cigarettes are less likely to cause addiction than traditional cigarettes, and similar to alternative products such as nicotine gum. But this work was often performed using former smokers or smokers. People who have not smoked cigarettes regularly, especially young people, are a growing category of nicotine users.

Do you desire smoking?

The researchers compared here the effect of the use of electronic cigarettes in the form of pod with the effect of nicotine gum in a sample of adults under the age of 25, all of whom are regular electronic cigarette users, but they are not smoked. Participants abstained from nicotine/tobacco all night, then used their electronic cigarette or chewed nicotine gum for 30 minutes.

Participants answered personal questions before and/or after each session, and the questions included the desire to eat the product and the effects of the product. And evaluating the withdrawal symptoms before each time the person smokes, and after 5, 15 and 30 minutes of it, the comfort that I provided by relieving the withdrawal symptoms, whether it is satisfactory or not, and the psychological reward (if the person has calmed down or not), and the aversion (did you make him feel nauseous?).

The study found that the electronic cigarettes used by Pod -shaped participants were more effective than effective and fake nicotine gum (which does not contain nicotine). More specifically, electronic cigarettes significantly reduced the intense desire and withdrawal symptoms, and increased contentment, compared to both doses of gum.

Researchers believe that users may find more attractive electronic cigarettes because they contain liquid that contains nicotine salts. Nicotine salts reduce the bait and bitterness associated with high nicotine concentrations.

“Today’s e -cigarettes is a great ability to cause addiction in categories that were not aware of enough. This often includes teenagers and young adults,” said Andrea Milstrid, the main author of the study.
