The State of Qatar won for the second time with the membership of the International Civil Aviation Organization Council (ICAO) for the third category for the next three years (2026-2028), after the elections that took place within the meetings of the forty -second general assembly of the organization and currently held at its headquarters in Montreal, with the participation of the delegations of 193 member states.
The State of Qatar achieved a great victory in the elections, as the third category countries topped the vote by obtaining 170 votes, in a clear confirmation of its valuable contributions and distinguished efforts in the civil aviation sector.
This victory embodies the renewed international confidence in the State of Qatar, and confirms its deep commitment to contributing to the formulation of global civil aviation policies. It also reflects its pioneering role in enhancing international cooperation and supporting innovation in civil aviation, which contributes to developing the infrastructure of this pioneering sector, raising its efficiency, and providing a safe and reliable environment for aviation worldwide.
In this context, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Thani, Minister of Communications, said: “We are proud of this achievement, which reflects the international community’s confidence in the continuous march of the State of Qatar to enhance its position in the civil aviation sector, and confirms Qatar’s election to the International Civil Aviation Organization Council for the second time its firm commitment to active participation in setting policies and standards that guarantee the highest levels of safety and efficiency in air transport.”
His Excellency added: “This victory also reflects the international appreciation of the strategic approach adopted by the State of Qatar in developing the infrastructure of civil aviation and enhancing the quality of services provided to this vital sector, and we are committed to continuing to invest in national capabilities and technological innovation to provide distinguished airlines with the best international standards, which reflects our serious endeavors in achieving the goals of the third national development strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.”
His Excellency said: “We look forward to enhancing close cooperation with our international partners in the ICAO organization, and working together to support global initiatives that enhance safety and efficiency, and push the sustainable development wheel of the aviation sector, and we are confident that these efforts will contribute to establishing Qatar’s pioneering role on the international civil aviation map, in a way that reflects its ambitious vision and serves the interests of all member states.”
His Excellency thanked the heads and members of the delegations of all the countries participating in the General Assembly for their confidence and support for the membership of Qatar in the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization for the third category for the next three years, and also praised the great efforts made by the work team from all sides.
In a related context, Mr. Mohamed Faleh Al -Hajri, who is charged with conducting the work of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, said: “The State of Qatar is embodied by the membership of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for the second time in a row, a qualitative achievement added to the record of the continuous successes of the civil aviation system in the state, as it reflects the active and pivotal role that the State of Qatar plays in developing the aviation industry at the international level, through its support for many strategic initiatives that have contributed In developing the infrastructure of the aviation sector and capacity building, in order to achieve sustainable growth that keeps pace with all global developments. “
It should be noted that the State of Qatar has made remarkable steps in developing the civil aviation sector, by establishing a global level infrastructure that guarantees sustainable development and meets environmental standards, and the state also contributed to providing the workforce in many countries with training and skills necessary to enhance its capabilities to fulfill the standards and practices approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization, in order to support the safety of civil aviation in those countries.
