Frenchman Gael Monfils won the Auckland Open Tennis Championship after defeating Belgian Zizo Berges in two sets to none (6/3 and 6/4).

This is the French player’s thirteenth title in his professional career, and his first since winning the Stockholm Championship in October 2023.

Monfils, 38 years old, also became the oldest player to win a tournament on the ATP World Tour, since Australian Ken Rosewall won the Hong Kong Championship in 1977 when he was 43 years old at the time.

Monfils will meet his 17-year-old compatriot, Giovanni Mpiche Pericar, in the first round of the Australian Open tennis tournament, the first of the four Grand Slam tournaments of the year, whose competitions begin tomorrow, Sunday, and continue until January 26.
