Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has left the door open to the possibility of signing a new player before the end of the current transfer window, while mocking Manchester United and Arsenal’s spending on deals.
Julian Alvarez is close to leaving for Atletico Madrid, for around £82m, and with so many attacking talents in the squad, City appear to need a defensive midfielder to help Rodri.
“Yes, we will see if we need to sign a player. The price must be right. Otherwise it will not matter,” Guardiola said, according to the Daily Mail.
“We will see our chances at the end of the transfer window, and whether the club needs to sell more than now, for example, I don’t know. Maybe we need a pivot player to play in Rodri’s position.”
On his concern about Manchester United and Arsenal spending heavily on their squads this season: “They’ve been doing it for many years. For many years, but it’s not news to anyone. It’s just City when they spend more.”
“We don’t have many players because we don’t pay what the other club wants. We will continue to work like that. This season is more about wanting and becoming a better player than winning another Premier League title because most of the players have already won a lot, so the ambition cannot be to win but to improve.”
