Hamad International Airport achieves record numbers in 2024

Hamad International Airport (DOH) achieved milestones in 2024, serving 52.7 million passengers, an increase of 15% compared to the previous year. The airport continues to strengthen its role as a major global hub for airlines and travelers. The number of aircraft movements also increased to 279,000, recording an increase of 10% compared to the same period of the previous year, while the total cargo handled reached 2.6 million tons, an increase of 12% compared to last year. The airport also handled 41.3 million bags, reflecting a 10% increase in baggage handling efficiency.

According to the Airports Council International (ACI) 2024 Air Connectivity Report, Hamad International Airport is ranked as the highest rated airport in the Middle East in terms of air connectivity, providing travelers with outstanding connectivity options through its award-winning facilities.

Growth in the local market
During 2024, Hamad International Airport witnessed the reception of more than 4 million passengers per month, which reflects its ability to manage large numbers of passengers efficiently. Passenger traffic to and from Doha increased by 16%, exceeding the growth rate of transit traffic for the first time, driven by Doha’s increasing attractiveness as a tourist destination, and joint efforts with Qatar Tourism to attract charter services. It is worth noting that the airport served more than 12 million passengers from one destination directly to another.
Adding new destinations and airlines
The airport succeeded in expanding its global network in 2024 to include 197 destinations, with 55 airlines operating operations from Hamad International Airport, including new partners such as China Southern Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Japan Airlines, Garuda Indonesia and AKASA. To fly. Qatar Airways, which is based at the airport, has also added many destinations to its global network, such as Osaka, Hamburg, Lisbon and Toronto.
Passenger numbers witnessed strong growth across eastern and western markets. In China, passenger traffic rose by 87%, and emerging Asian markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam also recorded remarkable growth rates. In European markets, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and France, passenger traffic achieved positive growth, which strengthens the airport’s position as a distinguished global destination.
In this context, Mr. Hamad Ali Al Khater, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport, said:

Al Khater added: “In November and December 2024, Hamad International Airport witnessed an increase in the number of passengers on direct flights, exceeding the numbers recorded during the 2022 World Cup period, which confirms Doha’s position as a preferred global destination. As we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the start of operations, we are devoting our efforts to the next phase, which includes improving the infrastructure by adding more gates to provide an easier experience for travelers by mid-2025, strengthening our global partnerships, and contributing to supporting the economic growth of the State of Qatar.”
