Yesterday, the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund “Daam” held a press conference to announce the sixth edition of the “Samla” competition, which will start next 5/12 from Al-Ghariya and continue for two days. In this edition, which was sponsored by major companies and supported by various government agencies, about 300 contestants will compete for the prizes. The grand prize allocated to the first three places, estimated at one million Qatari riyals.
Mr. Azzam Al-Mannai, Chairman of the race organizing committee, said that the committee was keen to raise the level of challenge during the various stages of the race, in line with the level and capabilities of the contestants participating in the race this year, explaining that Samla initially started with a race distance estimated at 96 kilometers, and today it has reached 200 kilometers. kilometres, which reflects the capabilities of the participants who are now competing with a very small time difference between the first places.
For his part, Mr. Rashid Al-Tamimi, head of the technical committee for the race, explained that the organizing committee deliberately set dilemmas to test the resilience of the contestants at every stage of the race. He added that the dilemmas or obstacles set by the committee will remain secret and the contestants will face them during the race. He explained that the race includes six stages, starting with the swimming stage. From the Al-Ghariya area north on the sea route specified by the organizing committee to Fuwairit Beach for a distance of 3 kilometers, and he added, the running phase begins from there, which extends over a 66-kilometre route, in the city of Zubarah towards the Umm Al-Maa area, where the first camp is, which includes the third phase, which is The rowing stage: The contestants paddle a kayak from Umm al-Maa to the opposite bank. This stage depends on the skill of balance and physical strength in rowing. This is followed by the fourth stage, which is the bicycle stage on a bumpy track, starting from the Umm al-Ma area, passing through the Christian area for a distance of 75 kilometers, then followed by the fifth stage, which is the air shooting stage. In this stage, the competitor must shoot 5 shots with an air rifle at the specified target from a distance. 8 meters, as this stage depends on concentration and accurate shooting, followed by the sixth and final stage of the race, which is the running stage from the Christian area to the finish line in Umm Bab, a distance of 50 kilometers.
Regarding the prizes, Rashid explained that the prizes offered by the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund were allocated as follows: 500,000 for first place, 300,000 for second place, and 200,000 for third place. He pointed out that the holders of places from fourth to tenth will be given an amount of 75 thousand riyals to each one, as for the contestants. Outside the classification, they complete the race within the specified time and receive an amount of 10,000 riyals for each one of them.
Al-Tamimi stated that the registration process will begin next October 1 and continue until October 27, and applications will be received on the website designated for the competition. He explained that one of the conditions for registration is that the applicant must be of Qatari nationality, aged 18 years and above.
