The Athletics Federation continues to consolidate its position as one of the most prominent international sports agencies for a commitment to sustainability, as he announced a set of environmental initiatives as part of its preparation for organizing the next version of the Doha tour of the Diamond League, which will be held on the 16th of May this month at the Sahim Bin Hamad Stadium in the Qatar Club.
These initiatives come in the context of a comprehensive approach adopted by the Federation, headed by Mr. Mohamed Issa Al -Fadala, which attaches the utmost importance to applying the highest quality and sustainability standards during the organization of major championships, in order to complete a march of distinction that culminated in the past years by obtaining a certificate of sustainable events management system (ISO 20121) as the first sports federation in the world to obtain this international recognition. In the 2025 edition, the Qatari Federation adopted a package of practical procedures to reduce the carbon fingerprint, which included the allocation of 3 electric cars in cooperation with Getur to transport players from Hamad International Airport to accommodation, in addition to more than 12 flights through the Doha Metro to transport guests, which contributes to reducing dependence on traditional transportation. The organizing committee was also keen to choose the hotel and delegations hotel near the competition site and the championship stadium, in order to reduce the need to travel by cars.
In this context, Mohamed Issa Al -Fadala, President of the Qatar Athletics Federation, stressed that sustainability is no longer an option but rather a shared responsibility for all the organizers of sports events, noting that Qatar seeks to be a model to be followed globally in this field. He said:
“The Qatari Union views sustainability as a basic pillar in our sports system and one of the most important pillars in building our society. The next version of the Diamond League will not only be a global sporting occasion, but a role model in organizing environmentally friendly championships, as we seek to form an additional motivation to build a sustainable environmental heritage in the State of Qatar and the world.
For its part, Sheikha Al -Sahli, Chairman of the Sustainability Committee in the championship, said that every step taken this year was based on a precise scientific action plan, taking into account all aspects of sustainability before, during and after the tournament. “We have developed a comprehensive executive plan in cooperation with our partners in the public and private sectors to ensure the achievement of our environmental goals,
