Al-Ahly will meet Al-Qoton of Yemen today in its third match in the first group of the 39th Arab Men’s Handball Championship for League and Cup Champions, currently being held in the State of Kuwait and will continue until September 26.
Al-Ahly is looking forward to achieving its first victory that will guarantee its advancement to the quarter-finals, before facing Kuwait SC (the title holder) in the conclusion of the group stage tomorrow, Saturday.
Al-Ahly lost its first match against Al-Salmiya of Kuwait with a score of (28-29), while it tied in the second match with Al-Karkh of Iraq with a score of (27-27).
Ten clubs are participating in the tournament, divided into two groups. The first group includes Al-Ahly of Qatar, Kuwait SC of Kuwait, Al-Karkh of Iraq, Al-Qoton of Yemen, and Al-Salmiya of Kuwait. The second group includes Al-Gharafa of Qatar, Al-Ahly Bank of Egypt, Maliha of the Emirates, Al-Qadisiyah of Kuwait, and Al-Hashd of Iraq.
The top four teams in each group qualify for the quarter-finals.
Kuwait SC won the last edition of the tournament, which was held in Saudi Arabia last year, after defeating Egypt’s Zamalek in the final match (31-30).
It is noteworthy that Al Rayyan of Qatar won the title of the twenty-first edition of the tournament, which was held in Sharjah in 2000, and Al Gharafa of Qatar won the title of the thirty-fifth edition, which was held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, in 2019.
