Our national six-a-side football team managed to snatch a valuable draw against the Iraqi team with a goal for each team in the opening of the Gulf Soka Six-a-side Football Championship hosted by Salalah Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. The goal for Al-Annabi against the Iraqi team was scored by veteran player Saeed Ghulam.
Late last night, Al-Annabi played its second match in Group One against the Egyptian team, which was called up to participate in the tournament after the Bahraini team apologized for not participating. Group One includes Qatar, Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman and Egypt, while Group Two includes the teams of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the Emirates. Captain Mohammed Mubarak Al-Mohannadi, head of the Qatari delegation, confirmed that the team prepared for a short period in one of the external stadiums at Al-Gharafa Club before traveling to the Sultanate of Oman, but everyone is seeking to achieve a positive result from this participation, and the beginning was with a draw with the Iraqi team, which is a good thing, especially since Iraq is one of the countries that have players who participate in the six-a-side football league on a regular basis. For his part, Captain Adel Khamis, deputy head of the Qatari delegation, said that the importance of this tournament lies in it being a qualifying tournament for the World Cup, as the first, second and third place teams in the tournament qualify to participate in the World Cup for six-a-side football (SOCA) to be held in Oman next November in Muscat.
“A gesture of loyalty to Al-Musnad”
The Qatari mission coordinated with the Omani brothers to highlight the gesture of loyalty and gratitude to the late great captain Saeed Al-Misnad, where a large poster bearing the name and picture of Al-Misnad was placed in the stadium during the matches, in addition to the players carrying a picture of the late Saeed Al-Misnad before each match in commemoration of the distinguished giving, as Captain Saeed Al-Misnad did not miss such gatherings and Gulf championships, whether as a player or a coach.
