His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Olympic Committee and member of the Board of Directors of the Olympic Corporation for Refugees, met with His Excellency Mrs. Kirguati Kovtenvri, the elected president of the International Olympic Committee, on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, which was held yesterday at the Olympic House in the Swiss city of Lausanne.
The meeting witnessed the presence of Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice -Chairman of the Qatar Foundation, in confirmation of the commitment of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Qatar Foundation to support refugee issues through sports, education and community development.
During the meeting, a number of issues of common concern were discussed, especially with regard to enhancing cooperation in the areas of sports governance, empowering youth, and expanding the Olympic initiatives aimed at employing sport as a tool to achieve sustainable development and community peace.
The meeting highlighted the sporting programs for refugees and youth in host societies and ways to enhance partnership with international organizations, with the aim of enhancing the presence of the Olympic Foundation for Refugees at the international level.
