Doha- In a step towards enhancing eye care in Qatar, the Qatar Eye Association, in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation, launched a national initiative entitled “Skinitis for All”, which focuses on providing comprehensive care for the patients of the grocery in Qatar.

The announcement of the inauguration of the initiative came during a medical symposium held by the association, which is emanating from the Qatar Doctors Association, with the participation of a group of local and international experts in the fields of ophthalmology, infectious diseases, rheumatism and general health, which reflects the importance of multidisciplinary integration in dealing with relaxitis, one of the inflammatory eye diseases that may threaten vision, which requires early diagnosis and comprehensive medical care.

The initiative is the first in Qatar at the level of associations and aims to deliver the service to all sectors, through logistical, psychological and social support for patients and their families and contributing to preserving the level of consideration, as the implementation mechanism will focus on the concerted efforts of all doctors in the public and private sectors and communicate with each other to cooperate in treating patients.

“We move from traditional therapeutic models to an integrated societal approach that enhances the patient’s support along the stages of the disease, as this initiative is consistent with Qatar’s goals in health excellence, and sets the foundation for extensive reforms that include other medical specialties,” he said.

He continued that with the launch of this initiative, the State of Qatar is made with confidence towards an integrated health system based on evidence, and it establishes a promising future in the advanced specialized care in ophthalmology, where the initiative is a leading model in how to confront complex diseases through institutional cooperation, scientific innovation and comprehensive societal vision.

The two critics explained that the initiative reflects the work according to Qatar National Vision 2030 by focusing on developing modern strategies and integrated therapeutic protocols, ensuring the sustainability and quality of health services directed to chronic diseases, pointing out that the initiative seeks to integrate the efforts of associations and scientific ties such as the Qatar Doctors Association and the Qatari Association of Eye Medicine with health and social institutions, to provide an integrated model that includes medical treatment and psychological and social support.

The initiative will be led by Dr. Zamzam Al -Bakr, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Al -Wakra Hospital, Vice -President of the Qatari Association of Eye Medicine, and the head of the Al -Qarjiyya Inflammation Team at Hamad Medical Corporation, in partnership with Dr. Faisal Al -Naqdan, Head of the Qatar Ophthalmology Association and a first consultant at the Hamad Medical Corporation, and with the support of Dr. Omar Al -Qahtani, Executive and Medical Director of Al -Wakra Hospital, Head of the Department of Medicine Al -Ayoun at Hamad Medical Corporation and member of the Association’s Executive Committee.

In a statement to Al -Jazeera Net, Dr. Zamzam Al -Bakr said that the departments of the eyes and the various clinical specialties in the Hamad Medical Corporation, including infectious diseases, endocrine and internal medicine, played a distinguished role in designing a sustainable and comprehensive care model centered around the patient.

She explained that the initiative focuses on the role of social support societies, from social development institutions and charitable societies, in providing support in a certain way to patients, through protocols and laws for this matter to ensure that support is provided to the patient automatically.

The spread rate

On the rate of spread of the disease in the Qatari society, Dr. Zamzam said that, according to a recent study, it was found that there are between 12 and 20 new cases annually among children, while the Iremperitis Department at Hamad Medical Corporation receives 60 visits per week where the appropriate medical care and follow -up is provided for these cases that require continuous care and follow -up to this chronic disease.

It revealed a proposal submitted by Qatar to the International Association for the Study of Endocrusitis, which is the allocation of a global day to raise awareness of the disease of iris and has already been approved, and during the coming period the day will be determined and announced to be an annual effectiveness that focuses on this disease.

She added that relaxitis disease requires care that exceeds clinical treatment, and also includes psychological and social support, explaining that therapeutic care alone is not sufficient, and that achieving sustainable results requires joint coordination between specialized doctors, supportive medical teams and social support networks.
