The Qatari -Egyptian economic relations are witnessing great interest from the leadership of the two countries during the current period, which was crowned by the visit of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi to Doha, and the meeting of Qatari businessmen and executives of major Qatari companies, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Relationships have witnessed a remarkable development during the past two years in particular, as the volume of Qatari investments in Egypt has increased to more than 5 billion dollars, focused on energy, real estate, and tourism projects, with future plans to increase investments in industry and infrastructure.
The volume of trade exchange between Qatar and Egypt increased to 38% in 2024, with a value of about 746 million riyals, compared to 540 million riyals in the year 2023.
During the meeting, His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, stressed, in a speech to him, the Egyptian leadership’s keenness to expand the horizons of cooperation between the two countries, stressing the importance of strengthening joint work to advance the strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt towards broader horizons that serve the interests of the two sides.
For his part, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed his speech to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as the depth of the established brotherly relations that link the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and is based on ancient historical and strategic foundations, pointing out that it witnessed a great development during the last period thanks to the common will of the leadership of the two countries to move forward in developing and diversifying cooperation in a more Sustainability and prosperity for the two brotherly peoples.
His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohamed El -Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, explained that this meeting represents a strategic platform to enhance economic cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt, in light of the remarkable development of relations, noting that the volume of trade exchange between the two sides recorded an annual growth at a rate of 50 percent during the past four years. He also stressed the importance of the private sector as a key partner in advancing the investment and opening new horizons for joint cooperation.
His Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar continues its efforts to expand the prospects for economic and trade cooperation and enhance investment opportunities with the countries of the region and the world in a way that achieves mutual benefit, and deepens bilateral partnerships, by providing advanced infrastructure and facilitating trade procedures, in addition to stimulating investments in line with the goals of the third national development strategy.
His Excellency stressed the importance of intensifying joint efforts and continuous work to improve the level of trade exchange between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt, enhance the integration of the private sector in the two countries and establish strategic partnerships that support sustainable economic development in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
His Excellency pointed to the bilateral agreements that were signed between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt during the past years, pointing out that it constitutes basic pillars to enhance the confidence of investors from both sides, the most prominent of which is the Convention on Economic, Commercial and Technical Cooperation, the Convention on the Encourage and Protection of Mutual Investments, and the Convention on the Prevention of Doubtowment, and also indicated that the two sides are currently working to prepare to start the bilateral negotiations on the trade agreement Free, which will open broad horizons to the flow of goods and services, and expand the markets for investors in both countries.
For his part, His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, President of the Qatar Chamber, stressed, in a speech to him, the importance of promoting trade exchange between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the need to raise it to levels that reflect the great potential enjoyed by the two countries, pointing to the strength of the relations that bring together the Qatar Chamber of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers, and the active role it plays in enhancing joint cooperation between the business community.
His Excellency called on Qatari businessmen to take advantage of the promising investment opportunities in the Egyptian market, and also urged Egyptian investors to explore the advantages of the advanced investment environment in Qatar, including modern infrastructure, and the motivating and supportive legislative system for economic growth.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al -Kuwari, Minister of Finance, His Excellency Mr. Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al -Attiyah, Minister of Municipality, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al -Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, His Excellency Sheikh Nawwaf bin Nasser Al Thani, member of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Businessmen Association, and His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, President of the Qatar Chamber, and senior officials and representatives of the public sector from both countries.
