Kahrama expects 4 decades with more than 3 billion riyals for infrastructure projects for electricity networks

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, “Kahramaa”, has signed 4 strategic contracts with a value of approximately 3.1 billion riyals, with the aim of developing the infrastructure for strategic electricity networks projects in Qatar and meeting the needs of the electrical network to keep pace with the rapid urban renaissance witnessed by the state at all levels, in the presence of His Excellency Eng. Saad bin Shaida Al -Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs.

The signed contracts with Al -Suwaidi Cable Company (Qatar), Volultage of Engineering Ltd. (Qatar), Pest & Petach Consortium (Turkey) and Tayhan for cables and solutions (South Korea), include the construction of seven high -voltage stations, in addition to the ground cables and air lines required to connect those stations with a total length of 212 km.

In a statement on this occasion, His Excellency His Excellency Eng. Saad bin Draida Al -Kaabi praised the efforts of the Qatar General Organization for Electricity and Water “Kahramaa” in meeting the increasing demand for electricity.

His Excellency added: “These contracts that were signed today reflect our commitment to implementing comprehensive and effective plans for our strategic projects that ensure the sustainability of our networks’ ability to absorb unprecedented growth in the energy sector and meet the increasing demand for electricity.”

For his part, Eng. Abdullah bin Ali Al -Thiab, head of the Qatar General Corporation for Electricity and Water, “Kahramaa”, stressed that the signing of these contracts represents an important step in the institution’s march towards developing the infrastructure of electricity networks in Qatar.

He added: “We are proud to cooperate with highly efficient national and international companies, and confirm our commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships and supporting the local economy. The assignment of the largest share of these contracts for Qatari companies reflects our great confidence in the capabilities of the local private sector and its pivotal role in achieving our development vision and Qatar National Vision 2030.”

According to contracts, companies will build electrical stations, extend cables and air lines, in addition to developing some existing stations to increase their capacity.

In line with the “Kahramaa” policy by encouraging Qatari companies, and according to the state’s strategies in encouraging the private sector, the Qatari companies’ share of the total strategic contracts formed 58.4 percent (equivalent to 1.8 billion riyals), as cooperation with two Qatari companies reflects evidence of the efficiency of local companies and their ability to keep pace with development plans in the electricity sector, and also enhances the role of the local private sector as a basic partner in support Economic growth wheel.
