Gerardo Martino, coach of the American football team Inter Miami, announced today that Argentine Lionel Messi will be absent from the team’s match tomorrow, Sunday, against its guest, Mexican Puebla, in the opening matches of the American and Mexican Football League Cup.
Messi, 37, suffered an injury to his right ankle in his country’s recent win over Colombia in the Copa America 2024 final, and missed two MLS matches last week, as well as the All-Star Game between the MLS and MLS.
Messi moved last year to Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain, and contributed to the American team winning the American and Mexican League Cups last year.
