Egyptian King Mohamed Salah is in an open historical race with Egyptian football records, after his tally rose to 68 international goals, making him just one step away from equaling the record recorded by Hossam Hassan, who scored 69 goals, in a struggle that is no longer measured by continuity only, but rather by being close to the top of the scoring pyramid in the history of the Egyptian national team.
In the World Cup, Salah consolidated his position as the most influential Egyptian player in the history of the tournament, after scoring 3 goals in the 2018 and 2026 editions, becoming the highest number for any Egyptian player in the World Cup.
With this goal, Salah broke up the partnership with the late Abdel Rahman Fawzi, the former Zamalek player who scored two goals for the Egyptian national team in the 1934 World Cup.
This harvest also placed him in the lead in terms of participation, after he played 4 matches in the finals, equal to Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet in a number that reflects the presence of one generation across two editions of the tournament.
