The industrial production index index in the country last January recorded a level of 107.4 points, an increase of 6.3 percent compared to last December, and by 0.7 percent on an annual basis compared to the same month in the year 2025.
This index reflects the growth of the various industrial economic sectors that make up it, namely the mining and quarrying sector, with a relative importance of 82.46 percent, the manufacturing sector, with a relative importance of 15.85 percent, the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply sector, with a relative importance of 1.16 percent, and the water supply sector, with a relative importance of 0.53 percent.
Data from the National Planning Council showed that the index for the mining and quarrying sector increased by 7.8 percent compared to December 2025, as a result of the increase in the production of the crude oil and natural gas extraction group by 7.7 percent, and the decrease in the group of other mining and quarrying activities by 6.3 percent.
Compared on an annual basis to January 2025, the value of this sector index increased by 1.4 percent, and this is due to the increase in the group of crude oil and natural gas by 1.3 percent, and the decrease in the group of other mining and quarrying activities by 3.2 percent.
In the manufacturing sector, data showed an increase of 0.3 percent during last January compared to last December. This increase is due to an increase in production in two groups: the chemicals and chemical products industry by 2.3 percent, and the printing and media reproduction industry by 1.4 percent.
On the other hand, the cement and other non-metallic mineral products industry recorded a decrease of 6.3 percent, the rubber and plastics products industry by 3.2 percent, the refined petroleum products industry by 1.7 percent, the basic metals and basic metals industry by 1.3 percent, the food products industry by 0.8 percent, and the beverage industry by 0.6 percent.
On the other hand, in the same sector and in terms of annual change, the industrial production index for the manufacturing sector decreased last January by 1.7 percent compared to January 2025.
The decrease was recorded within the industry of refined petroleum products by 10.5 percent, the industry of cement and other non-metallic mineral products by 10.2 percent, the industry of printing and reproduction of recorded media by 4.8 percent, and the industry of chemicals and chemical products by 0.9 percent.
The increase occurred in the rubber and plastics products industry by 7.1 percent, the basic metals industry and basic metals by 5.9 percent, the food products industry by 5.2 percent, and the beverages industry by 2 percent.
In turn, the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector recorded a decrease of 10.1 percent compared to December 2025, and compared to January 2025, the index for this sector decreased by 17.8 percent.
In the same context, the water supply sector recorded a decrease of 3.4 percent compared to December 2025, and compared to January 2025, this sector decreased by 2 percent.
