The Qatar Railways Company (CIHT 2025 “won the carbon removal by the Certified Institute for Rapid Roads and Transport (CIHT), the prestigious British Corporation, for its pioneering project” The Swimming Energy Restore System in the Doha Metro: converting kinetic energy into electrical energy “, in a new confirmation of its global leadership in the field of sustainable innovation.
This achievement is a new confirmation of the leadership of Al -Rail Company in the field of sustainable environmental innovations in the public transport sector, and reflects its commitment to enhancing the environmental performance of its projects and operational operations.
Representatives of Al -Rail received the award during the annual ceremony for the distribution of CIHT Awards, which was held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in the British capital, London, in the presence of more than 480 experts and decision makers in the global transport sector. The “Rail” project was chosen from among a record number of posts this year, as only six projects qualified for the final stage.

Efficiency and sustainability
On this occasion, Eng. Jassim Al -Ansari, head of the project delivery sector at Al -Rail Company, said: “What distinguishes Al -Rail Company is its ability to adopt the latest technologies that achieve operational and environmental value at the same time. The system of restoring braking energy in the Doha Metro is an advanced model for sustainable innovation, as it allows the reuse of energy generated through this technology, which reduces dependence on external energy sources and raises the efficiency and sustainability of the metro operating system as a whole. This comes within the company’s future vision that aims to enhance the company’s leadership and various projects in the field of smart and sustainable innovation in the public transport sector.

Global appreciation
For his part, Eng. Abdul Rahman Al -Malik, Director of the First Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, Security and Emergency Affairs of Al -Rail Company said: “This global appreciation represents a testimony to our firm commitment to sustainable development and environmental preservation. We are proud of the Rale Company by devoting our operational practices in line with the national environmental goals of the State of Qatar, by applying effective energy solutions at various levels of our operating system. The Prize for the Certified Institute for Roads, Speed and Transportation stresses the importance of our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our activities, while maintaining an infrastructure that provides the highest standards of sustainable operation.

Pioneering techniques
The CIHT Carbon Remove Award honors the distinguished global initiatives and projects that achieve concrete results in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing the environmental footprint. Al -Rail’s victory in this award embodies its commitment to adopting leading techniques that contribute to environmental protection and rationalization of energy.
The braking energy restoration system in the Doha metro network allows the conversion of the resulting motor energy during the braking process (braking) in the trains into electrical energy that can be used within the network, unlike traditional braking systems that lose energy in the form of heat. This feature allows trains during the braking to re -generate up to 46% of the traction used, as it is transferred to the network for use by other trains and stations. This innovation has contributed to achieving great savings in the power rates used in the network annually, reducing operational costs, and reducing carbon emissions. Through this electrical technology, Al -Rail has established a new standard for sustainability in urban transport at the region level.

Operating efficiency
This international appreciation comes less than a year after Al -Rail won the award for “Best Innovative Energy Efficiency Efficiency” award for the same project in the Energy and Water Administration Forum in November 2024, through which the braking energy restoration system was highlighted due to its positive impact on rationalizing energy consumption and improving the operational efficiency of the metro.
This achievement also enhances the contribution of Al -Rail Company in achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, and confirms the pivotal role of public transport in advancing sustainable development.
The operating system of the Doha Metro project is a unique model in the region, thanks to its ability to effectively recycle energy, as it can be used by other trains or stored within the company’s energy network for future use. Where the braking energy restoration system contributes to raising the operational efficiency of the project by reducing maintenance costs and reducing dependence on external energy sources, as well as reducing the environmental impact of operational operations.
