German rider Christian Kuckuck won the gold medal in the individual jumping competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics equestrian competition today, after taking first place in an exciting playoff round.
Kokok qualified for the final without errors on his horse Chimer 47, alongside Swiss rider Steve Gerda and Dutch rider Michael van der Vleuten.
That led to a playoff, and although Kukkok was the slowest of the three in the final, the 34-year-old rider prevailed in what amounted to a tiebreaker to give the German riders their fourth gold medal of the current Olympic Games, and Kukkok the 100th Olympic medal for German riders, according to the International Equestrian Federation’s calculations.
Gerda won the silver medal, Switzerland’s first in equestrian sport since winning gold in 2012, while Dutchman Van der Vleuten, riding his horse Beuvel Z, had to settle for the bronze medal.
