The General Authority of Civil Aviation is hosting the sixteenth meeting of the Permanent Committee for Meteorology and Climate in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which will be held over the course of 29 and 30 October, with the participation of heads and officials of meteorological facilities in the GCC countries.
The Qatari side at the meeting was chaired by Mr. Abdullah Al Mannai, Director of the Meteorological Department at the General Authority of Civil Aviation.
The meeting’s agenda included discussion of many topics, the most prominent of which was the Supreme Council’s decision regarding the Green Middle East Initiative, and the strategic plan for cooperation and joint work in the field of meteorology and climate.
The field of developing international cooperation was also discussed between the General Secretariat of the Council and the World Meteorological Organization. In addition to discussing the terms of the memorandum of understanding between the General Secretariat and the Meteorological Administration of the Republic of China, and enhancing cooperation with friendly and brotherly countries in the field of meteorology and climate.
The meeting also included discussing ways to connect the weather radar network and the earthquake monitoring network, in addition to enhancing the prospects for joint work and exchanging experiences and expertise. Mr. Abdullah Al-Mannai, Director of the Meteorology Department at the General Authority of Civil Aviation, said in press statements that the meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation, and discussed the committee’s strategic plan and making appropriate decisions related to meteorology and exchanging experiences, in addition to mechanisms for providing scientifically approved information to make the appropriate decision in cases. Exceptional.
Regarding the plans of the Meteorological Department during the next phase, Al-Mannai stressed that it is working on many axes to develop performance to keep pace with the latest developments and the latest developments related to global meteorological devices, including the installation of a number of marine buoys during the next three months, in addition to maintaining the Mekainis radar. There is also an intention to strengthen Radar network in the State of Qatar by purchasing a new weather radar.
The Director of the Meteorological Department also indicated that the development plan also includes ensuring the maintenance of all monitoring stations in Qatar, especially before the rainy season, in addition to the maintenance of the meteorological stations located in the country’s airports.
Al-Mannai also stressed the keenness of the Meteorological Department to organize training courses for employees, in line with the objectives of the Civil Service Bureau and government development to train employees in the government cadre.
He noted that the Meteorological Department has 48 meteorological stations, which have devices to measure rainfall amounts, and 50 rain measuring devices were purchased, 40 of which were installed, and there are still 10 devices that will be installed according to request.
