The Ministry of Transportation is participating in the work of the joint meeting (26) of the technical committees for land, sea and multimodal transport, whose activities began yesterday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and will continue for two days, with the participation of representatives and experts from the transport sector in the Arab countries, in addition to a number of Arab, regional and international organizations and federations.
The meeting’s agenda includes discussing a number of important items related to transport and logistics issues in the Arab region, most notably the Arab Agreement to Regulate the Transport of Passengers and Goods on Roads between Arab Countries, and the proposal to adopt the electronic portal of the Arab Federation for Land Transport as an electronic portal for land transport information in the Arab countries, which represents an important step towards digital transformation and the unification and exchange of information and data related to transport.
The meeting will also discuss unifying specifications for dimensions and axle weights of trucks operating between Arab countries, which contributes to enhancing the flow of land transport movement and facilitating transport operations between Arab countries.
The meeting will also discuss a draft agreement to regulate maritime transport procedures for passengers and goods between Arab countries, prepare a regulatory framework for a unified Arab strategy for road safety, and prepare a draft Arab strategy on digital transformation in the transport sector in order to improve operational efficiency, simplify services, ensure transparency and traceability in supply chains, and reduce time and financial costs.
The meeting also discusses logistical integration and Arab food security through intra-development corridors based on a memorandum submitted by the Republic of Iraq, in addition to discussing the impact of geopolitical developments on supply chains in the Arab region (memorandum from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport).
