The Qatar Olympic Committee announced the participation of the State of Qatar with a delegation of 243 male and female athletes in the 20th Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026” scheduled in Japan during the period from the nineteenth of September to the fourth of next October.
The committee explained, during a press conference today, that the Qatari delegation participating in the tournament includes 427 individuals, including 243 male and female athletes, with 184 male and 59 female players, in addition to 142 members of the technical and administrative staff, 23 members of the administrative delegation, and 16 members of the media delegation.
Qatar participates in 26 sports and 32 disciplines, through 18 sports federations, amid aspirations to achieve distinguished results that enhance the presence of Qatari sports in the Asian forum.
Sports in which Qatar participates include athletics, football, basketball, 3×3 basketball, handball, volleyball, beach volleyball, squash, padel, taekwondo, judo, artistic gymnastics, golf, archery, swimming, jiu-jitsu, e-sports, sailing, equestrian, karate, fencing, bow and arrow, wrestling, boxing, weightlifting and table tennis.
The committee revealed the launch of the “Mirqab” platform to provide an integrated window to follow up on the Qatari participation in “Aichi-Nagoya” and facilitate following the mission’s news and access to the information, updates, and services provided to the Qatari delegation during the session.
She pointed to the establishment of the Qatari Guest House, within the framework of the Olympic Committee’s keenness to provide a fixed headquarters throughout the session to introduce and disseminate Qatari culture.
The 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 represents a major preparation station for Qatari athletes for upcoming events, most notably the Doha 2030 Asian Games, which the State of Qatar is preparing to host.
The city of Nagoya and Aichi Prefecture will host the tournament’s competitions, in addition to holding a number of competitions in associated areas in Gifu, Shizuoka, Osaka and Tokyo prefectures.
Mr. Ahmed Youssef Al-Darwish, head of the administrative delegation of the Qatari delegation participating in the twentieth Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026,” confirmed that the preparations had taken place in the necessary manner, noting that the preparations had begun since the conclusion of the previous edition, which was held in China.
Al-Darwish said that there is a large working team that has been formed to follow up on the various details related to Qatari participation, in coordination with sports federations, with the aim of providing the best conditions for athletes and delegations and achieving the maximum levels of success, stressing that the primary goal is to produce an honorable image for the State of Qatar.
He added: “At the end of this tournament, attention will turn to Doha, which will host the next edition of the Asian Games in 2030. Therefore, participation in Aichi-Nagoya represents an important milestone, not only on the sporting level, but also in terms of preparation for the next hosting.”
He pointed out that the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 tournament witnesses wide participation in 41 sports and 68 disciplines, with a total of 460 events, distributed among 53 competitive facilities and 75 training facilities, stressing that the Qatari delegation will be keen to benefit from the experience in various aspects.
Regarding women’s participation, he pointed out that the participation rate of Qatari female players is about 31 percent of the total participating athletes, considering that this percentage represents a positive indicator and reflects the development of Qatari women’s participation in the sports field and the expansion of their presence in various games.
For her part, Mrs. Iman Al-Emadi, Deputy Head of the Administrative Delegation of the Qatari delegation participating in the 20th Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026,” expressed her hope that the Qatari delegation would appear in its best light during the tournament’s competitions.
Al-Emadi said that communication was made with all participating Qatari sports federations, and work was done to prepare and equip various matters related to the mission, including logistical arrangements and equipment, to ensure the best conditions for male and female athletes during the competition period.
The Deputy Head of the Administrative Delegation pointed out the importance of women’s participation in the Qatari delegation, stressing that Qatari female players will have an important role during the tournament’s competitions, and she hoped that they would contribute to achieving medals and raising the Qatari flag high in the Asian forum.
In turn, Mr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Marri, head of the media delegation of the Qatari delegation to the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, confirmed that Qatari participation in the tournament represents an important milestone and a final touchstone before the State of Qatar hosts the next edition of the Asian Games in Doha in 2030.
Al Marri said that the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 tournament represents an important opportunity to enhance the Qatari sports presence and allow athletes to interact with the strongest Asian levels, in addition to competing for medals and achieving results that reflect the level of development witnessed by Qatari sports in various games.
He explained that the Qatar Olympic Committee is keen, in conjunction with participation in the tournament, to establish the Qatari Guest House “Qatar House”, as it is one of the initiatives that the committee used to organize in major sporting tournaments and competitions, with the aim of introducing and disseminating Qatari culture, and presenting an integrated picture of the State of Qatar and the important events and competitions it is witnessing.
He pointed out that Qatar House will begin work on September 19th, coinciding with the start of the Asian Games, and will continue until the end of the session on October 4th, to be a window for communicating with delegations and audiences and introducing the State of Qatar and its culture.
He pointed out that “Qatar House” will also celebrate the Qatari heroes and heroines who achieve achievements during the tournament’s competitions, in appreciation of their levels and results, and to shed light on the achievements of Qatari sports in this Asian forum.
For his part, Mr. Naji Al-Omari, a member of the administrative delegation of the Qatari delegation, confirmed that the Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026” represent an important milestone for Qatari sports, noting the keenness to appear in a way that reflects the development witnessed by sports in the State of Qatar.
Al-Omari said that work had been done to provide all requirements for the mission, by preparing hotels and means of transportation and completing various logistical arrangements, to ensure the readiness of the delegation throughout the tournament period, noting that the goal of these preparations is to provide the appropriate atmosphere for male and female athletes, and to enable them to fully focus on their competitions, present their best levels, and achieve the desired results.
