“Qatar Ports” receives more than 700 thousand containers in the first half

Statistics from Mwani Qatar revealed a distinguished performance during the first half of 2024, handling more than 706,000 containers through the reception of 1,323 ships at Hamad Port, Al Ruwais Port, and Old Doha Port.
Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) stated in a post on its official account on the social media platform “X” that container performance during the first six months of 2024 recorded a growth of about 12% compared to the same period in 2023, with 706,983 thousand containers handled, supported by a 24% increase in the handling of transit containers at Hamad Port.

The vehicles, equipment and livestock units also recorded growth of 39% and 22% respectively, handling 55,944 thousand vehicles and equipment, more than 358,201 thousand heads of livestock, in addition to handling 931,465 thousand tons of general and bulk cargo, and more than 171,158 thousand tons of building and construction materials.
In a related context, Mwani Qatar achieved the second highest monthly handling rate for container volume last June, receiving 242 ships and more than 144,000 containers, a growth of 51% compared to June 2023. This growth was accompanied by an increase in the volumes of general and bulk cargo, livestock, equipment and vehicles, and ships by 163%, 149%, 108%, and 23%, respectively.
Qatar ports handled more than 56.93 thousand tons of general and bulk cargo during the past month, and 15.68 thousand cars and equipment. It also received 59.13 thousand heads of livestock and 22.504 thousand tons of building and construction materials.
The performance of Qatari ports during the year 2023 achieved remarkable growth in the level of handling general and bulk cargo, livestock, car and equipment units, and building materials, which increased by 11%, 124%, 1.5%, and 2%, respectively, compared to the previous year. Transit containers through Hamad Port accounted for 43% of the total containers handled during the year, recording an increase of 30% compared to 2022.
Mwani Qatar is responsible for managing Hamad Port and Al Ruwais Port, two commercial ports, in addition to developing Doha Port, which has become a cruise port. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, Mwani Qatar works closely with stakeholders and partners to secure materials and goods and enhance shipping internally and externally, and works to make its ports preferred entities for all global shipping lines.
In addition to managing quays, dry ports and container terminals, Mwani Qatar provides marine pilotage, towage, berthing and navigation aids management services, in addition to loading, unloading, handling and storage of cargo. It also participates in the development of seaports and related services in accordance with international standards.
Hamad Port is classified as one of the largest ports in the Middle East with a capacity of 7.5 million standard containers annually, and is one of the most important long-term projects that embody Qatar National Vision 2030, which is a tributary to social, economic, environmental and human development in Qatar.
