Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) announced that the total number of passengers on the Doha Metro since the start of its operations in 2019 until today has reached a new record of more than 200 million passengers.
This achievement comes to confirm the growing public confidence that the metro has gained among the country’s residents and visitors throughout the year, in addition to the importance of the role it plays as an effective and reliable alternative for the movement of individuals daily and during various occasions and events that the country witnesses.
Since its launch in May 2019 until January 2023, the Doha Metro recorded more than 100 million passengers. Although it took about 3.5 years to achieve this number in the beginning, the metro was able to repeat the same achievement in a record time of no more than two years. These numbers clearly reflect a significant and rapid increase in passenger confidence year after year in metro services and its success in providing transportation services with international standards, ensuring a safe and reliable transportation experience for various customers through an advanced network that includes 37 stations distributed over three main lines: red, gold, and green.
An essential pillar in organizing tournaments
Over the course of more than 5 years, the importance of the Doha Metro has emerged as a fundamental pillar in the success system of hosting and organizing more than 20 local, regional and international sporting events and tournaments witnessed by the State of Qatar, most notably the finals of the Emir Cup, the 2021 Arab Cup, the 2022 Qatar World Cup and the Asian Cup. Over the past years, the scope of the Metrolink service network has expanded to include 61 current routes covering 30 metro stations, compared to 13 routes in May 2019. The operation of the Lusail tram network and the expansion of its services also contributed to enhancing the integration of the two networks and their connection through the Qataifiya switching station, providing an integrated and easy transportation experience that allowed customers to move between the two networks and reach Lusail City and its main destinations.
In terms of numbers and standards specialized in measuring performance indicators, the overall rate of customer satisfaction with metro services from its launch in May 2019 until November 2024 reached about 99.75%, while the overall accident frequency rate was 0.01, which reflects commitment to the highest international standards in safety. Metro performance indicators were also recorded. 99.85% in terms of service regularity, 99.64% in terms of appointment accuracy, and 99.99% in terms of service availability.

The results of a survey conducted by Ipsos also revealed that the Doha Metro has a very positive reputation among the public, as about 90% of the survey participants confirmed that the Doha Metro is a safe means of transportation that reduces traffic congestion and is an environmentally friendly transportation alternative, in addition to providing an easy transportation experience for people with disabilities.
