The Aspire Academy Indoor Championship, which was held on the Academy’s indoor athletics track, witnessed recording the third-fastest time in the history of the 60-meter hurdles race for men under 20 years old, by 18-year-old runner Kendry Fontes, who received his training at the Aspire Academy.
Kendari achieved a time of (7.48) seconds in the indoor 60-meter hurdles qualifiers, placing him third on the list of the fastest in history for the under-20 category, and the fastest in 2024.
The Aspire Academy organizes the championship competitions with the aim of providing a competitive environment for all participants as an essential part of the athletics program offered by the academy, and its times have been officially approved by the World Federation of Athletics, with the participation of athletes from the Aspire Academy, runners from Qatari clubs, in addition to players from the Abu Dhabi Athletics Club.
The events included 60-meter and 60-meter hurdles races for various age groups, starting from the under-16 category up to the adult category, in addition to races for junior girls who are training at Aspire.
In turn, Hamdi Mehersi, the athletics coach at Aspire Academy, stressed the importance of this tournament, which he considered as a good opportunity for Aspire Academy athletes and members of the Qatari team to prepare for the upcoming major competitions, including the world championships indoors and outdoors, noting that it contributes to achieving the vision of Aspire Academy and Qatar. To succeed in the 2030 Asian Games, especially since its participants represent Qatar’s future on the global stage.
