The Bahrain Football Association announced that it has signed a contract with Spanish coach Felix Sanchez to take over the leadership of the first team, succeeding Croatian Dragan Talajic, in a move aimed at rearranging the team’s cards and preparing for the upcoming matches.
The Federation explained, in a statement today, that Sanchez will officially assume his duties within days, as the appointment of the Spanish coach came after the dismissal of his Croatian successor last week against the backdrop of the Bahraini national team’s exit from the group stage of the Gulf Cup tournament, which was hosted by the Saudi city of Jeddah, after suffering three defeats against the teams of the Emirates, Qatar and Yemen.
Sanchez led the Qatari national team to win the Asian Cup in 2019 for the first time in its history, before his career with the national team ended after his participation in the finals of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, during which he lost his three matches in the group stage.
He also took over coaching the Ecuadorian national team in March 2023, achieving ten victories in 19 matches, before leaving his position in July 2024, to return to Qatar as coach of Al-Sadd Club in the 2024-2025 season, leading it to win the league and Qatar Cup titles, before ending his mission last October due to a decline in results.
