The Egyptian Tennis Tennis Federation issued an official statement addressed to Mr. Raul Kalin, Secretary -General of the International Tennis Tennis Federation (ITF), in which it expressed its rejection of the statement issued by the International Federation on May 29, 2025, which dealt with the results of the presidential elections held during the annual general assembly meeting of the International Federation in Doha, on May 27.
The statement of the Egyptian Federation, signed by its president, Mr. Ashraf Helmy, stated that the content and tone of the international statement reflect a clear and premature bias, in light of the continued investigation into an official complaint submitted by the Qatar Tennis Federation regarding the existence of violations in the electoral process.
The statement added that the Egyptian Federation believes that the announcement of the election results as final “ignores the institutional rules” and threatens the credibility and neutrality of the International Federation, especially in light of the “emergence of five additional electronic voices that were not included in the call of official names”, which is a serious procedural violation that requires an urgent and transparent investigation by the competent authorities within the International Federation.
The Egyptian Federation explained that these violations affect the essence of the electoral process, stressing that:
• Any results cannot be considered final as long as legal complaints have not been separated.
• The International Federation is not acceptable to issue any data bearing the character of decisiveness at a time when complaints are still being seen.
• The ordinary general assembly has not yet been officially concluded, and the results were not approved by the Nominations Committee or the Executive Council as the regulations state.
The letter, which was also directed to all members of the members, the Executive Council, the International Federation Council, and the integrity unit, affirmed the full legal right of the Qatari Union to challenge the outcome of the elections, and the need to respect this right according to what is stipulated in the regulations of the International Federation and its internal constitution.
The Egyptian Federation also called on the International Federation:
• Refrain from biased or directed statements before the investigations are completed.
Ensuring neutrality and transparency in addressing electoral conflicts.
• Respecting the legal path and making sure to enforce the principles of justice and integrity.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that the Egyptian Tennis Tennis Federation, as a member of the ITTF, is not considered the result of the May 27, 2025 elections, final or obligatory, until it is officially decided in all the appeals presented.
The Qatar Tennis Tennis Federation submitted an official complaint after the end of the vote in the presidential elections, in which it revealed an unjustified increase in the number of votes of the participants via the Internet, which exceeded the number adopted during the appeal of the names, which raised clear suspicions of manipulation in the results of electronic voting, especially since the extra votes were poured into favor of Swedish candidate Petra Sorling.
Several parties – including major national federations – have called for the necessity of opening an honest and independent investigation about the matter, in order to preserve the reputation of the International Federation and the cohesion of its institutions, while supporters of the Qatari candidate Khalil bin Ahmed Al -Muhannadi insist that the process is marred by violations that are incompatible with democratic values and electoral integrity.
It is expected that the coming days will witness a legal and political escalation within the corridors of the International Federation, in light of the sharp contrast in positions, and the continuation of the controversy over the legitimacy of what happened in Doha.
