Today, Monday, the World Health Organization issued a health warning regarding three cough syrups found to be contaminated in India, and called on health authorities in other countries to inform them immediately if any of these products are discovered.

The organization explained that the contaminated medicines are specific batches of the medicines “Coldriv,” “Respirfresh TR,” and “Re-Life,” manufactured by the companies “Srisan Pharmaceuticals,” “Rednex Pharmaceuticals,” and “Shape Pharma.”

The organization indicated that these contaminated products pose significant risks to health and may cause severe, life-threatening diseases.

For its part, the Central Drug Control Authority in India informed the World Health Organization that 17 children under the age of five died last week in India after taking these contaminated medications.

The authority confirmed that none of these contaminated medicines were exported from India, and there is no evidence of their illegal export.

The US Food and Drug Administration confirmed last Friday that these syrup medications had not been shipped to the United States.
