The Director of the World Health Organization in Europe announced today, Monday, in an interview with Agence France-Presse, that up to a thousand injured and sick women and children will be evacuated from the Gaza Strip “in the coming months.”
Director Hans Kluge said that Israel has pledged to allow about “an additional thousand medical evacuations to the European Union in the coming months,” explaining that the Health Organization will facilitate these operations in cooperation with the countries concerned and the European Union.
The World Health Organization has so far facilitated about 600 medical evacuations from Gaza to 7 European countries since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza in October 2023.
Kluge stressed that “this would not have happened if we had not maintained the dialogue,” noting that “we must truly strive not to politicize health.”
“I maintain dialogue with all partners,” he stressed.
The 55-year-old Belgian doctor believed that “the most important medicine is peace,” calling for respect for health centers and medical teams in conflict areas.
Most hospitals in the Gaza Strip are out of service, while a catastrophic health and humanitarian situation prevails in light of the devastating bombing and ground military operations carried out by the Israeli army since the beginning of the aggression against Gaza.
