Al Rayyan seeks to return to victories in the AFC Champions League 2, when it meets its host Al-Nahda of Oman today, at the Sultan Qaboos Stadium in Muscat, in the third round of the third group, which includes, alongside them, Al-Taawoun of Saudi Arabia and Al-Faisaly of Jordan.
Al Rayyan began its campaign by defeating Al-Faisaly 4-2, before losing away to Al-Taawoun 1-2 in the second round, ranking second in the group with three points.
Al Rayyan is looking forward to correcting the course and returning to victories in order to maintain its full chances of qualifying for the round of 16, as obtaining the three points will be important in this round that requires showing a high state of focus.
Al Rayyan enters today’s confrontation after receiving a great morale boost, following its victory over Al Sailiya by six goals to one in the seventh round of the Qatari League, strengthening its position at the top of the standings with 17 points.
The team of Spanish coach Vicente Moreno prepared well for the confrontation, as it is expected that the starting lineup of the team will include the presence of all players except Khaled Ali, who was injured in the last match against Al Sailiya.
As for Al-Nahda, it occupies the fourth and last place in the group with one point gained from its draw with Al-Taawoun in the first round, while the team suffered a loss outside its stadium against Al-Faisaly with two clean goals in the second round match.
The Omani team realizes the importance of achieving victory in order to revive its hopes of qualifying for the next round of the tournament, and is expected to throw with all its might as it plays the match on its home soil and among its fans. In addition, within the same third group competitions, Al-Faisaly hosts its counterpart Al-Taawoun at Amman Stadium, in a confrontation during which the two teams will look to continue the path of victories. Coach Vicente Moreno: We need to win again in Asia
Al Rayyan coach Vicente Moreno confirmed that the team is ready to face Al Nahda of Oman.
He said, “Today we will be very prepared for the match. We know that Al-Nahda is a very good team, but for us, after our last match in the AFC Champions League, we need to win again in this tournament, and I hope that we will play a good match.”
Regarding facing Al-Nahda for the second year and the extent of the difference, he said: Yes, every year and every match is different. I know and I watched last season’s matches, but I am sure that tomorrow’s match will be different because we have some different players and a different coach, and certainly the opponent has also changed and has new players, but I am sure that tomorrow’s match will be very difficult and this is clear to us, and for this reason we must be fully prepared for tomorrow because we will need to give our best if we want to win.
