“Oko Test” reported that melatonin spray often does not provide a little benefit to healthy people with sleep problems, and it also has health risks, according to the test results conducted by the magazine on 19 sprays containing melatonin, which is sold without a prescription.
The German magazine concerned with testing goods and products explained that the benefits of melatonin sprays are minimal for healthy users, as it decreases the time to sleep at only seven minutes.
Side effects
For his part, the Federal Institute for Risk Evaluation in Germany warned of the potential side effects of melanin, which are drowsiness, low vigilance, instability and stability of the gait, even with short -term use and doses less than 1 milligram.
Melatonin sprays may also lead to a relatively stable biological clock, and they may negatively affect other body hormones.
As for the long -term risks, for example on children or people at risk of diabetes, it is not adequately studied.
It is mentioned that the body produces melatonin to regulate the sleep and waking cycle. It is also available as a medical preparation used in certain cases, for example, in the case of people over the age of 55 years and suffer from difficulty sleeping or staying asleep, or children with certain diseases and who can be prescribed by the doctor for a limited period.
Sleeping measures
German experts recommended not to resort to melatonin sprays as a first step in dealing with sleep problems, as it is better to take some useful measures to enjoy a healthy sleep and congratulate such as:
