Many people overeat in the winter, and despite the happiness that fatty or sweet foods give us, bloating often disrupts this happiness.

What causes bloating?

“Signs of bloating include a feeling of fullness or pressure in the abdomen, feeling like your belly is larger than usual, you may experience stomach pain and discomfort and your stomach may make gurgling sounds,” Dr. Emma Derbyshire, a health nutritionist, told The Independent. Mild discomfort to severe pain.

Nutritionists explain that the most common cause of bloating is intestinal gas. This digestive problem can simply be caused by eating too quickly, food intolerance, or food allergy that causes digestive problems and gas accumulation. Other factors such as menstruation can also contribute to this unpleasant feeling. Anxiety can also cause bloating. The reason may be related to a medical problem such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Why do some people suffer from it more than others?

Some people experience more bloating than others due to factors such as food intolerances, irritable bowel syndrome, and an unhealthy balance of intestinal bacteria, i.e. a lower ratio of good to bad bacteria. This may be caused by a diet containing highly processed foods high in fat, sugar and salt.

Here are some ways to prevent bloating:

1- Reduce your intake of cruciferous vegetables

“Reducing your intake of cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage and cauliflower and legumes such as peas, beans and lentils can also help reduce gas and bloating,” Derbyshire says.

2-Stay active

Derbyshire recommends staying active with a good walk or run every day. Or do light exercise at home, such as squats and push-ups.

3- Eat smaller amounts of sugary sweets

Avoiding sugary and fatty sweets can contribute to reducing healthy intestinal bacteria, and there is no need to avoid these foods completely, reducing them will do the trick.

4-Don’t be nervous

Derbyshire advises practicing stress management techniques such as slow, deep breathing and relaxation.

5- Keep your body hydrated

Drink sufficient amounts of water daily.

6- Try probiotics

Probiotics (good bacteria) can help reduce bloating by introducing healthy bacteria to the intestines.
