The Public Works Authority “Ashghal” has completed the development and renovation works of Souq Al Asiri and Souq Faleh in the central Doha area, as part of its continuing efforts to develop the heart of Doha and upgrade its commercial and tourist facilities, while preserving its authentic architectural character, in a way that enhances the visual and urban identity of the area and consolidates its position as a prominent, lively economic, commercial and tourist destination.

The project included the implementation of an integrated package of development and rehabilitation works, which included maintaining and restoring existing architectural elements, modernizing shop facades, improving exterior finishes, organizing and unifying billboards, developing lighting systems, in addition to cleaning and polishing floors and marble and rehabilitating common areas, which contributed to highlighting the aesthetic character of the two markets and improving the experience of shoppers and visitors.

The works also included redesigning and developing the streets connecting the two markets and the areas surrounding the two markets, in a way that enhances ease of movement and flow, increases the efficiency of the urban landscape of the region, and contributes to providing a more organized and attractive commercial environment.

During the implementation of the project, Ashghal focused on achieving a balance between preserving the authentic architectural identity of the two markets and introducing modern improvements that keep pace with the urban development witnessed by the country, thus enhancing their position as prominent commercial landmarks within the urban fabric of Doha Central.

The Authority was also keen to implement the works according to a well-thought-out plan that ensured the continuity of commercial activities and minimized the impact on shop owners and market patrons throughout the implementation period, while adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety and using specialized equipment and technologies to complete the work with high efficiency.

This project comes within Ashghal’s strategy aimed at developing existing economic and tourism markets and facilities, improving the urban environment, and preserving the architectural heritage, in a way that supports sustainable development goals, raises the quality of life, and enhances the attractiveness of cities and commercial centers in the State of Qatar.

The project is expected to contribute to strengthening the position of Al-Asiri and Falih markets as two vibrant commercial destinations, by providing a more modern and organized environment that preserves their authenticity and historical identity, which is linked to the memory of the place in Doha.
