The World Health Organization said on Monday that the majority of medical equipment stocks were run out in Gaza, along with 42% of the basic drugs, including pain relievers.

“We reached the level of zero in the inventory for about 64 percent of the medical equipment, 43 percent of the basic drugs and 42 percent of the vaccines,” Hanan Belki, the regional director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, told reporters in Geneva.

She added that 51 aid truck belonging to the World Health Organization is waiting for the Gaza border, and it has not yet obtained a permit to enter the Palestinian sector, as Israel had reduced last week a little of the comprehensive siege that it imposed on aid since early March.

“Can you imagine a surgeon treating a bone fracture without anesthesia? Intravenous solutions, needles and dressings are not available in the required amount,” Belkha said, adding that basic drugs such as antibiotics, pain relievers and chronic delicious diseases are scarce.

After a siege that lasted 11 weeks, Israel allowed 100 aid trucks carrying flour, children’s food and medical equipment to the Gaza Strip on May 21, and none of them were affiliated with the World Health Organization.

Israel has launched a brutal aggression against Gaza since October 2023.

In light of the continuous shortage of medical equipment, the World Health Organization confirmed that it will not participate in an alternative aid -backed aid plan to distribute aid proposed by the Gaza Relief Foundation. The United Nations says that the Foundation is not neutral and that its work may cause more civilian displacement and harm to harm.
