The X platform launches a new video editor to encourage the publication of original videos

The X platform announced the launch of a built-in video editor within its application for iPhone phones, equipped with a new interface that combines photography and editing tools, with the aim of encouraging users to produce original video clips and publish them instead of re-publishing clips circulating from other platforms.

The update includes a set of new features, including recording video with “Green Screen” technology, adding multilingual explanatory translations with the ability to customize their appearance, in addition to a simplified interface that allows creating, editing, and publishing video clips directly within the application.

“Enabling content makers to produce original works is one of the company’s priorities,” Nikita Beer, head of products at the platform, said, stressing that the platform intends to introduce further improvements to the video editor in the coming weeks.

He stated that (X) is also working on rebuilding its application for the Android system, which makes it likely that the new video editor will arrive on that platform later.

This update comes as part of a broader plan to enhance the visibility of video within the platform, as over the past two years the company has tested a dedicated video tab in the navigation bar, and has also concluded agreements to provide original video content. Last month, it launched the feature of recording user reactions via video.

The platform had previously explained that it reduces the appearance of republished posts and content coming from other platforms, calling on users to record original video clips with their voices, as part of X’s endeavor to increase exclusive content within the platform.

Linda Yaccarino, the former CEO of the platform, had stated in 2024 that (X) had become a “video-first platform,” noting a noticeable growth in video views, which reflects a change in user behavior.

The company’s interest in original content is not only limited to attracting users, but also extends to supporting the development of the artificial intelligence model Grok, which relies in its training on public content published via (X), which gives the original clips additional importance within the company’s future strategy.
